Starting Cycling is Easy

Are you're excited to feel the wind in your hair and those pedals under your feet while cycling? Fortunately, it's easier to start cycling than you may have thought. So, take a look at some of the best tips for beginner cyclists:
- Know the cost. Buying a bike may cost you anywhere between $500 and $3,000. As a general rule, the cheaper the bike the heavier the frame and the wheels. Of course, the weight may not matter quite as much for someone who wants to commute to work as it will for someone planning a cross-country cycling vacation.
- Invest in some biking-specific clothing. According to experts, good-quality padded bike shorts, padded cycling gloves and a comfortable helmet will go a long way when it comes to your enjoyment. Also, cycling jerseys are designed to wick moisture and carry other essentials for your ride, like a cell phone, keys and food - therefore extremely practical…
- Be prepared. It is highly recommended to always carry a patch kit to fix a flat, along with a way to pump air back into the mended tire, identification, a cell phone, a credit card and some cash in case of emergencies.
- Build up to longer distances. Unfortunately, you can't just hop on your bike and pedal hundreds of miles. It takes time and plenty of riding to be able to cover serious ground. You need to start slow and build up as once you're out on your journey, it's already too late to get fit. Therefore it’s important to start your preparation early.
- Cross-train. Although there isn’t anything quite like cycling to prepare you for cycling, being a new rider you may want to try building strength and flexibility with yoga or Pilates. Of course these activities can’t replace the real deal, but they may help enhance training.
