Summer Bicycle Games - Part 2
Let’s continue with some funny summer bicycle games for kids and adults as well. Enjoy the ride, and the company!
4. Pennies in the Can
Set up a course with safety cones (or objects you have in your garage) down a sidewalk. Every so often place an empty soup can along the course. Get creative with your
course, asking the rider to loop around cones, ride between objects, etc. This is a great time to let the kids plan it out! Give each rider a handful of pennies, or
marbles, or beans (same amount as cans) and challenge them to drop a penny into each can on the course. Make the course as elaborate (for experienced riders) or simple
(toddlers on trikes) as you want.
5. Wanna Get Wet?
Since it is summer, the kids would love to get wet a little bit. So, prepare the water balloons, water guns, sprinklers, and hoses and went to the ride. Each kid had
a “water station” they created and everyone took turns riding through and getting wet! And the winner is... the one that get wet, so, all the kids! No awards are necessary
at this game, since the fun will the biggest prize ever!
6. Tight Rope Trick Ride
Create a wide line by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk against the ground for fifty feet. Challengers must keep both their front and back wheels on the line for
the entire length of the line. Players can be called out by either going off the line or they can have a second added to their time each time they waver. More experienced
kids will have more chances to win at this game, or you should consider of making it easier.
7.Stop on a Dime
Create a single straight line, about twenty five feet long. One end is the start, the other end is the finish line, which you should mark clearly with a bold line, along with
additional shorter markings every four inches a total of two feet in front of and behind it.
Have the kids begin at the start line, and ride toward the finish, aiming to stop pedaling and apply their brakes so that their front wheel ends up squarely on the main
finish line. Deduct one point for each four inch marking that the rider stops in front of or behind the target finish line. Plan great prizes here, since the complexity of
the game requires awards!
8. Newspaper Delivery Boy
This is a fun game that allows kids to play at being a newspaper delivery boy. You should include it if at all possible in your bike rodeo as it is always a real hit. For
this you'll need five to ten targets (clothes baskets, large tubs, trash cans, etc.) and an equal number of rolled newspapers, plus a bag that can be slung
over a shoulder to hold the papers.
Lay the targets out one after another in a course, and have the kids ride the "route" trying to throw a newspaper from the bike in each target. You can award points based
on successful deliveries, i.e., putting the newspaper on target.
Now, I am sure you have played many great summer bicycle games. Therefore, please share them with us and let us enjoy them together!
